Since 2009, the Ayubi family has been serving diners delicious flavor-packed Afghan dishes from Adelaide’s inner west. While they have revealed the secrets of their cuisine in a well-known cookbook however, no home cook is able to recreate their famous pearl-like rice or banjaan borani (strips of roasted eggplant simmered in a tomato-based sauce, and then a mixture of spice until soft that they break).

It is a BYO bar (the owners of the restaurant use the money to provide food for homeless people) however the vibe is relaxed and the vibrant interior is crowded every evening during the week. Make reservations in advance and if you’re unable to secure a table, check out the city-based branch of Kutchi Deli Parwana for lunch.

In a dry cleaner’s shop situated on trendy Leigh Street, this narrow restaurant takes inspiration from Parisian bistros where the owners went during their honeymoon.
