She emphasized the importance of consumers looking out for the food labels, specifically ones that carry that Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) stamp of approval. Examining the quantity and number of ingredients could provide valuable information regarding the product’s nutritional value.

Dr. Raj also urged caution regarding claims by food manufacturers, reminding consumers that healthy foods don’t require over-the-top advertisement. She also emphasized maintaining an ideal weight by ensuring an appropriate balance between calories and physical exercise.

Take a bite to the max.

“When I say bite to the fullest, I mean that when you’re eating, make every bite count,” said Dr. Raj and added that this can be accomplished by picking foods with a high amount of nutrients, such as nuts for snacking on if you’re hungry.

Be mindful and choose your food mindfully.

Dr. Ray explained that this is a good thing in the case of eating at home instead of dining out. “Our surveys are showing that we are spending huge amounts of money on eating out.” Dr. Ray also advised against consuming highly processed food items usually packed with sugar, fat, and salt.

Additionally, she advised people to be aware of the size of portions and to make informed decisions about the food they eat.

Discipline

In the end, she concluded her presentation with a focus on discipline in food. She stressed the necessity of managing time, consistency, self-control, and accountability. Dr. Raj stressed to her audience that small continuous efforts can lead to massive shifts over time. She stressed the importance of beginning with a realistic goal.
