South West Food & Drink Club
The week before, we held the first of our year’s networking events for food and drank at Exeter in addition to Bristol, “The South West Food & Drink Club.”
The South West Food & Drink Club brings together prominent food and beverage businesses from the region to exchange best practices and strengthen their networks while building upon and developing new connections.

The gatherings saw about 30 people at Exeter and 50 people in Bristol who gathered to hear from the leaders of the field, including Amanda Stansfield, Managing Director and owner of Granny Gothards, Ellie Webb, founder of Caleno Drinks, and Helena Hills, Co-Founder of TrueStart Coffee -about their journeys in business as well as having an amazing breakfast, followed by some networking.
The future South West Food Clubs will be held in Plymouth, Truro, and Worcester, and plans are in the works for our next Exeter event scheduled to take place in June.

Record keeping
A company that produces and imports packaging made of plastic, even if it’s under 10 tons per year, must keep documents for the plastic packaging items that are manufactured or imported.
Plastic packaging will not pass the criteria for recycling content unless it is proven by evidence.
The requirements for keeping records are less for companies that manufacture and import no more than 10 tons of packaging each year, but certain records are required to be recorded.
If you’re a company that sells recycled plastic, your customers might want more information about the kinds and amounts of plastic you offer to them.
Recycled plastic
The tax is designed to encourage the recycling of plastic.
Businesses may begin to make changes to the packaging items they produce or import to ensure that they have at minimum 30 percent recycled plastic. This will make sure they’re not subject to tax.
However, records will have to be maintained, and a company may require registration in respect of plastic packaging that is manufactured or imported.
If you’re developing innovative packaging solutions that substitute plastic packaging within your company, a subsidy might be available through an R&D Tax Credit program.
Visit the tax-related R&D Credit Knowledge Hub for more information on the program.
Making sure you have the correct information
The records must be kept that demonstrate the amount of tax due or to verify that there isn’t any tax due to be paid.
This is a way of keeping records of the amount of recycled plastic that is contained in the packaging used or imported.
If the plastic is used in packaging, you’ll be required to verify that it has all of the data on the materials used in its manufacture. This should be done earlier instead of later.
